Vermont is likely to receive almost $1.5 billion through the federal stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. About two-thirds of the money will be direct aid to state and local governments and competitive grants. In addition, individual Vermonters will get nearly $500 million in tax cuts in 2009 and 2010.
Vermont has created a new Office of Economic Stimulus and Recovery (ESR) to track federal funds. Like every other state, Vermont has developed a website where the public can get information about applying for federal grants. As grants are awarded and money is spent, the website also will be a source of information about where the funds are going and the progress of various projects.
